The topic of the meeting for the first time for the past 12 years became Russian wines. The occasion of the tasting was the event, happened earlier in the Krasnodar district. This event caused a doubtful reaction among the professionals and amateurs. “In the autumn of 2013 as a part of Russian wines festival, held by Abrau-Durso, was organized a blind tasting of various sorts of wines with participation of international experts. The tasting caused active debates as according to its results some of Russian wines got higher grades from international judges than famous French, Italian and Spanish brands”, explains the President of the Moscow (National) branch of IWFS Leonid Gelibterman.
Interesting, that the choice of wines for the tasting was also performed according to the Krasnodar tasting results. In the tasting list were included 8 wines from Krasnodar district and 2 wines represented Rostov district.
The history of Russian winery formation is very interesting too. Some sources inform that the first Russian wines appeared in Astrakhan. In 1613 there was planted a special garden with vineyard and in 1656-1657 to the royal table were sent 48 barrels.
Nowadays for the industrial output Russia is included in top 10 world largest producers. Russian wines have started to get the most prestigious world competitions, including London International Wine Challenge.
The dinner with professional tasting took place in “Rafinad” restaurant. Guests of the event had a chance to value the dishes, cooked by chef Igor Sus, who in 2013 became the winner of Russian seleсtive competition Bocuse d’Or.
